Iréne Theorin
Iréne Theorin is the shooting star among the dramatic sopranos. Critics wrote about her debut as Brünnhilde in Siegfried: “The beloved knew how to please. Iréne Theorin was convincing as the grounded lyrical and splendiously escalating dramatical Brünnhilde" . In November 2004 she gave her debut as Brünnhilde in Die Walküre at the Royal Theater in Copenhagen. She made her debut with all three Brünnhilde`s in the RING in Nuremberg in 2005 and could be heard again in 2007. With these parts she also was the highly acclaimed highlight of the first Ring in Peking on tour with the Staatstheater Nürnberg in autumn 2005. The magazine Opernglas wrote: "Highlight of all highlights: The fulminant Brünnhilde of Iréne Theorin, would quickly became the audience`s darling. The huge cheers she received were absolutely well earned." In autumn 2005 she gave another successful debut as Turandot in Copenhagen, a part, which she also performed at the New National Theater in Tokyo, with Zubin Mehta in Tel Aviv in 2008 and at Covent Garden in 2009. Her debut as Isolde followed at the Théatre de la Monnaie in Brussels in 2006. She sang Brünnhilde at the Royal Opera House Covent Garden, London, the Deutsche Oper Berlin and the Semperoper in Dresden. Iréne Theorin sang Isolde with the Rotterdam Philharmonic and Valery Gergiev in 2007. In 2007 and 2008 she was Elisabetta and Tosca in Copenhagen and will sing new productions of Tannhäuser and Tristan und Isolde there. 2008 she gave her debut as Isolde at the Bayreuth Festival. In 2009 she made her USA debut as Brünnhilde in Walküre and Siegfried at the Metropolitan Opera and Siegfried Washington. Götterdämmerung and Ariadne follow in Washington in fall 2009. Elektra in Salzburg, Ballo in maschera in Washington and Brünnhilde in Siegfried and Götterdämmerung as well as Isolde in Toyko will follow in 2010. In September 2008 DECCA published the RING from Copenhagen on DVD, with Iréne Theorin receiving fulminant reviews of her portrayal of Brünnhilde. |
