Julia Rutigliano

The German Mezzo Soprano Julia Rutigliano was born in Würzburg, Germany but has Italian roots. She began her career as a soprano and studied at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater München with Prof. Daphne Evangelatos and at the Bayerischen Theaterakademie August Everding.

As a guest soloist she appeared at the Bayreuther Barocktage and the Staatstheater Karlsruhe, where she had a great success as Alarico, at the  Festival A*DEvantgarde in Munich, the Staatstheater am Gärtnerplatz, the Staatstheater Nürnberg and at the Theater Bonn.

In Nürnberg she sang Flora, Lola, 2. Dame, Linetta (The Love for Three Oranges), Kate Pinkerton or Valencienne. At the Prinzregententheater in Munich she sang Donna Elvira, Helena, Alarico and Liddy. She could be heard as Josepha Vogelhuber (Im weißen Rössl) in Bonn and recently sang Mary in Der fliegende Holländer Open Air in Braunschweig. She could be heard as Carmen at the Theater Ingolstadt in 2009 and sang Donna Elvira with great success in Oldenburg.

Since 2009/10 she is a member of the Ensemble of the Braunschweig Opera, where she can be heard as Carmen, Olga, Suzuki, and Prinz Orlofsky. In 2010/11 she will sing Aksinja, Orlofsky, Hermia, Hippolyta, Carmen, Meg Page and Donna Elvira.

She won First Prize at 25th Robert-Stolz Competition in Hamburg and the "Karl-Böhm-Prize" for best Mozart Interpretation at the Ferruccio Tagliavini Competition.
