Daniela Köhler

“With women's power, the young Daniela Köhler, a true high-drama soprano, appears as Brünnhilde. In the ‚Walkürenritt‘ she comes to the stage with powerful, loud 'Hojotoho shouts'. Regarding the female performers, she is the highlight of this evening and the only one who holds the 'Ring' as a love deposit in her hands and hands it over to the ‘Rheintöchter’.”

Daniela Köhler studied singing in Stuttgart, at Prof. Julia Hamari and Prof. Bernhard Jäger-Böhm, as well as at the Musikhochschule in Karlsruhe with Prof. Ingrid Haubold. She was a scholarship holder of the Zonta Karlsruhe, of the Lions Club Karlsruhe-Durlach and of the Richard-Wagner-Verband in Baden-Baden. In 2010, Daniela Köhler won the first Prize at the International Vocal Competition in s’-Hertogenbosch. She participated in several master-classes, for example with Brigitte Fassbaender and with Stephen Gould at Bayreuth Festival 2017. From 2007 to 2009, she was a member of the opera studio at Badisches Staatstheater in Karlsruhe and since then she is performing regularly as a guest there.

After her successful debut as Helmwige in ‘Die Walküre’ under the baton of Josep Pons at the Gran Teatre del Liceu Barcelona in 2014, she was invited to sing this role also at Oper Leipzig and at Bayerische Staatsoper under the baton of Kirill Petrenko in 2016 and 2018. In 2017-18, she sang Helmwige and her first, highly acclaimed Sieglinde in Leipzig. Her repertoire includes also roles such as Leonore (Fidelio), Ihr Repertoire umfasst außerdem Partien u.a. Leonore (Fidelio), Brünnhilde (Siegfried) Brünnhilde (Ring an einem Abend)  Julia (La Vestale) und Norma.

At the Bayreuth Festival 2018, she was covering Sieglinde in ‘Die Walküre’ and sang all parts of Brünnhilde in the famous Children’s production of ‘Der Ring des Nibelungen’ in Bayreuth. In the 2018-19 season, she sang Brünnhilde in Loriot's Ring an einem Abend’ at the Staatstheater Mainz, at the Aalto-Theater Essen as well as at the Nationaltheater Mannheim. In 2019, she toured with the Bayreuth Festival to Abu Dhabi, where she sang Sieglinde in ‘Die Walküre’ which was directed by Katharina Wagner and conducted by Markus Poschner. In spring, she made her sensational debut as ‘Siegfried’-Brünnhilde in Leipzig and in November, she presented the demanding soprano part of Mahler’s 8th Symphony with the Orchestre National de Lille. In 2019/20, she returns to Mainz as Brünnhilde in Loriot's ‘Ring’ and sings Fidelio-Leonore in Chemnitz, Helmwige in the new production of ‘Walküre’ in Madrid and Siegfried-Brünnhilde at the Oper Leipzig and the Theater Chemnitz. In summer, the highlight of 2020 will follow: in the new production of the tetralogy at the Bayreuth Festival, she will introduce herself to the international Wagner audience as Siegfried-Brünnhilde. Her debut as Tannhäuser-Elisabeth at the Aalto-Theater in Essen follows in autumn. As Rosalinde in ‘Die Fledermaus’ she shows her comic side in Chemnitz in autumn.
