Emily Hindrichs

“The Gürzenich Orchestra convinces without compromise, the soloists exceed all expectations: Emily Hindrichs (Marie) is vocally outstanding. Moreover, she plays the carelessly, then genuinely in love, soon obtrusively cleaning addicted, and finally miserable girl with insistent consistency.”

The American soprano celebrated great success with roles such as Königin der Nacht, Sophie, Le Feu, Le Rossignol, Oscar and in the Baroque as Constanza at the Badisches Staatstheater Karlsruhe before joining the Oper Köln ensemble in 2015/16. There, she can be heard as Teresa (‘Benvenuto Cellini’), Olympia/Gulietta, Lucia di Lammermoor, Cunegonde (‘Candide’) and Nanetta. In April 2018, she celebrated a huge success with her debut as Marie (‘Die Soldaten’). Her Elisetta debut (‘Il Matrimonio segreto’) followed in June. In the 2018/19 season, one could experience her in a quite different role – as Ottilie in the new production of ‘Im weißen Rössl’. Another Königin der Nacht followed in Essen and she appeared as Ishmaela in the production ‘The Outcast’ by Olga Neuwirth in the Elbphilharmonie Hamburg. In the 2019/20 season, she appeared as Elsa in the acclaimed new production of ‘Lanzelot’, directed by Peter Konwitschny, at the Deutsches Nationaltheater Weimar, about which the FAZ writes: “...the gigantic intervallic leaps and pitches of the desperate virgin Elsa, who must nevertheless be lyrical-cantabile – sensationally virtuoso sung by Emily Hindrichs – are musical character studies”. In Cologne, she will be admired again in her splendid role as Marie (‘Die Soldaten’) alongside Anna (‘Miranda’) and Musetta (‘La Bohème’).
