“…would one not be enchanted by Birgit Beckherrn as Kundry, seductive with her powerful and yet so sensitive soprano, it would still be just sober, superficial theater.” (Saarbrücker Zeitung)
A brilliant shimmering height and a big temper on stage are the brand marks of the artist. She showed it with her debuts as Kundry (Parsifal) at the Staatstheater Saarbrücken and as Montezuma (Die Eroberung von Mexico) at the same theatre.
Engagements led her to Lyon, Luxemburg, Kiel, Görlitz, Münster, to the Residenztheater in Munich, the Thalia-Theater as well as the Deutsche Schauspielhaus in Hamburg. She initially worked her way into lyrical repertoire which was followed by young dramatic parts like: Micaela, Marie (Die verkaufte Braut), Cleopatra (Giulio Cesare), Agathe, Eva (Paradise lost), Mimi, Tatjana, Helmwige (Die Walküre) and the Dritte Norn (Götterdämmerung). With the two parts last mentioned, she gave guest performances in Toronto in 2005 and 2006 and debuted as Sieglinde with the Staatstheater Karlsruhe on tour in Cagliary.
Birgit Beckherrn moved back for a while because of private reasons and is now working on a successful comeback, which started in 2012 with her highly noticed Kundry. As Montezuma she received effusive reviews. In summer 2013 she debuted as Leonore in Beethoven’s Fidelio in Porto Alegre, Brasil.
