Birgit Beckherrn
In March 2012 she gave her very sucessful debut as Kundry in Parsifal at the Staatstheater Saarbrücken and will be singing at the same house Montezuma in The conquest of Mexico .She sang the 3. Norn in Götterdämmerung, the third premiere of the new RING in Canada, which will be presented in the newly built opera house. Her debut as Sieglinde in Walkürewith the Staatstheater Karlsruhe on tour followed in Cagliari. Birgit Beckherrn, was born in Berlin, and was trained by Galina Wischnewskaja, JudithBeckmann and Tom Krause, also attending singing classes with Ralf Gothóni. She finalizedher studies in Hamburg with distinction. She is an award winner of several internationalcompetitions, such as Brahms competition in Hamburg and the Schubert competition inGraz and she received a scholarship of the “Studienstiftung des deutschen Volkes” and inshe also received a foreign scholarship of DAAD for Helsinki. Engagements lead her to Lyon, Luxemburg, Kiel, Görlitz, Münster, to the Residenztheater Munich, the Thalia-Theater as well as the Deutsche Schauspielhaus. She initially worked herway into lyrical repertoire which was followed by young dramatic parts like: Micaela, Marie in Verkaufte Braut, Kleopatra in Julius Caesar, Agathe, Eva in Paradise lost, Mimi, Tatjana, Helmwige in Walküre and the 3. Norn in Götterdämmerung. With the two parts lastmentioned, she gave guest performances in Toronto in 2005 and 2006 and debuted as Sieglinde in Die Walküre with the Staatstheater Karlsruhe on tour in Cagliary. Apart from that she is a concert singer, who is very much in demand: She performed withthe English Chamber Orchestra in the Barbican Hall, with the St. Petersberg Philharmonicsin Turka, at the Schleswig Holstein festival, at the NDR, at the summer festivals in BadKissingen and at the Bodensee. Her broad variety of repertoire includes, amongst others,the requiems of Verdi and Brahms, the 14th symphony and the romance suite ofSchostakowitsch, the 3rd Symphony (“Kaddish”) of Bernstein as well as around 500 songs and chamber music pieces of different styles. |
