Atala Schöck

Atala Schöck studied at the Liszt Ferenc Academy of Music in Budapest and attended several master classes with Julia Hamari, Adrienne Csengery, Anna Reynolds, Walther Berry and Walter Moore. She was holder of a scholarship of the Richard Wagner Association and won several awards like the First prize of the József Simándy Singing Competition and the Third prize of the Singing Competition of Hungarian Radio. In 2017 she got Franz Liszt Prize from the Ministry of Culture for her extraordinary musical and theatrical work and was honored as ‘Kammersängerin’ of the Hungarian State Opera Budapest.

She was guesting at great opera houses such as the National Opera Prague, the Hungarian State Opera in Budapest, Théatre de la Monnaie in Brussels, Teatro de la Maestranza Sevilla, Janacek Opera Brno, Teatro Reggio Torino, the Opéra National de Paris, Oper Frankfurt and at Semperoper Dresden. She also is a frequent guest at the Wagner Days in Budapest, where she already performed 3. Blume (Parsifal), Floßhilde, Rossweiße and her debut as Fricka (Rheingold and Walküre). At the Bayreuther Festspiele she sang 2. Knappe and 3. Blume. In 2012 she made her debut  as Marguerite (La Damnation de Faust) at Festival St. Gallen.

Furthermore, her repertoire includes roles like Cherubino (Le nozze di Figaro), Dorabella (Cosí fan tutte), Sextus (La clemenza di Tito), Ascanio (Ascanio in Alba), Nicklausse (Les Contes d’Hoffmann), Örzse (Háry János), Hausfrau (Spinnstube), Carmen (Carmen), Pauline (Pique-Dame), Charlotte (Werther) and Mutter (Hansel und Gretel).

In season 2017/18, Atala Schöck is singing the title role of Carmen in Brno and Gertrud in the new production of Hänsel und Gretel at Hungarian State Opera. Furthermore, she will return to Wagner Days 2018 in Budapest as Brangäne.

She worked together with famous conductors like Pierre Boulez, Adam Fischer, Ivan Fischer, Zoltan Kocsis, Philip Monteuil, Philippe Jordan, Kyrill Petrenko, Andriy Jurkevich, Pedro Halffter, Helmuth Rilling, Alessandro de Marchi, Pinchas Steinberg, Günter Neuhold, Michel Plasson, Paolo Carigniani, Daniele Gatti und Michel Swierczewski and with great directors like Calixto Bieito, Company El Fura dels Baus, Christoph Schlingensief, Keith Warren, Hartmuth Schörghofer, Balazs Kovalik, Günther Kramer, Ondrej Havelka, Carlos Wagner, William Kentridge and the Handspring Puppet Company, Karl Ernst and Ursel Hermann.
